The lieutenant governor is not directly elected by the people. Instead, the elected speaker acts as the lieutenant governor of the state. Such is the diverseness of the governmental functioning of Tennessee State. The General Assembly of Tennessee has 33 Senate members and 99 Representatives of the House. While the former members serve for four years, the latter serve for only two years. In this structure of governmental functioning, each member chooses their own speaker.
Like most states of the United States, Tennessee too has two major parties, the Democratic and the Republic. Like all other neighboring states, Tennessee too has a conservative bent. The moderate attitude of the people at the government of Tennessee towards the different races in the state shows their compassionate way of treating the people. Places like Memphis and Nashville, are strong supporters of Democrats.
Among the governmental bodies acting as agents of judicial system, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Tennessee Street Parks Department are very popular. They take care of the safety and security of the residents of Tennessee.
