Natchez Trace Parkway

The Natchez Trace Parkway is an extensive parkway which is a 444 mile long two-lane road with limited–access in the southeastern part of the United States . The northern limit of the Natchez Trace Parkway is located in the northeastern part of the city of Fairview in Tennessee at its junction with Tennessee 100 whereas the southern limit of the route lies in the city of Natchez in the US state of Mississippi at the point of its meeting with the Liberty Road . The Natchez Trace Parkway connects the cities of Natchez in Mississippi with Nashville in Tennessee via Tupelo and Jackson in Mississippi and Florence in the northwestern part of Alabama .
The construction of the Natchez Trace Parkway was started in the 1930s by the federal government. The final two parts between Interstate 20 and Interstate 55 and between US Highway and Liberty Road was opened for the public on the 21 st of May in 2005. This All-American Road is sustained by the National Park Service, the aim of the road being to memorialize the original Natchez Trace. The Natchez Trace Parkway was one of the major projects of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the construction of the road started in the year 1939, under the supervision of the National Park Service. The road was completed in 1994, it being one of the two post-tension segmented concrete acre bridges of the world. Several historic sites, like the renovated Mount Locust stand, Meriwether Lewis Museum , Ridgeland Crafts Center , Rocky Springs ghost town, historic Rocky Springs Methodist Church and the picturesque Cypress Swamp , are located along the Parkway. The Ackia Battleground National Monument or the Chickasaw Village , which was founded on 27 th of August in 1935, and the Meriwether Lewis Park which was established on the 6 th of February, were included into the Natchez Trace Parkway by the act of 10 th August in 1961. With its headquarter in Tupelo , the Natchez Trace Parkway looks after the two battlefields of the Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site and the Tupelo National Battlefield.
